At Shipping Container Services (SCS), we are committed to full compliance with South African tax legislation. This VAT Policy outlines how Value Added Tax (VAT) is applied to purchases made through our website and in person at our Durban premises.

  1. VAT Registration:

Shipping Container Services is a registered VAT vendor in South Africa in terms of the Value-Added Tax Act 89 of 1991. Our VAT registration number is displayed on all valid tax invoices issued to customers.

  1. VAT on Products and Services:

VAT is levied at the standard rate as prescribed by the South African Revenue Service (SARS), currently 15%, on all goods and services supplied by SCS unless otherwise exempt or zero-rated in terms of applicable legislation. All prices displayed on our website are inclusive of VAT unless expressly stated otherwise.

  1. Tax Invoices:

A valid tax invoice will be issued to all customers upon completion of payment. This invoice will contain all information required by the VAT Act, including our VAT registration number, the VAT amount charged, and a description of the goods or services supplied. Tax invoices are required for VAT input claims by registered VAT vendors purchasing from us.

  1. VAT Exemptions and Zero-Rating:

Certain goods and services may be zero-rated or exempt from VAT in terms of the Value-Added Tax Act 89 of 1991. Where applicable, SCS will apply the correct VAT treatment. If you believe your purchase qualifies for a zero-rated or exempt classification, please contact us prior to placing your order with the relevant documentation for verification.

  1. VAT Remittance:

SCS collects VAT on behalf of SARS and remits all VAT collected to SARS in accordance with the prescribed filing periods and deadlines set out in the VAT Act. We maintain accurate records of all VAT transactions as required by law.

  1. Cross-Border Transactions:

For customers outside South Africa, the export of goods may qualify as zero-rated supplies under the VAT Act, subject to the applicable conditions being met. International customers are responsible for any import duties, taxes, or levies imposed by their country’s customs authority upon receipt of goods.

  1. Changes to this VAT Policy:

SCS reserves the right to update this VAT Policy at any time in response to changes in South African tax legislation, SARS regulations, or business requirements. Any updates will be published on our website and will take effect immediately.
